. . . sent from the beautiful place that forms the focus of our new book.

Here’s another.
And here are some of the specially produced island stamps, with which, a few decades ago, you might have sent your postcard on its way.

Here’s our very own postcard, of and from the island.

What’s this all about? Find out more next week!
Davaar pre-orders open August 5th.
So sad that postcards have gone out! My husband still scours places for postcards to send to his friends when we travel but they are increasingly hard to find!

Kate, You’re teasing all of us. The postcards you shared are all delightful to me. I miss picture postcards from the dinosaur era very much. Looking forward to seeing all on August 5th. Have a happy week.

The Edwardian postcard with its scenic photograph nestled in heather and a tartan bow is utterly charming. I love, too, the later card with its glimpse of a 1950s summer. Indeed the unexpected pleasure of collecting old postcards (rather than just plain photographic views) of places one knows is the chance to time-travel into stories of past lives. Thank you for *your* postcard, Kate!

looking forward to seeing this – I love the old postcards, it’s always interesting to see how places have changed and to read people’s messages to home. I always feel sad that I do’t send postcards anymore, but it’s a big expense, so i buy them just for my own enjoyment.

I found this very interesting as the house I grew up in (and ultimately lost during the credit crunch), which was one of 3 built in 1896 by the painter William MacTaggart, was named ‘Davaar’ and no one really knew where the name came from, Now I have an answer. The most recent owners changed the name, which is a pity.

How fascinating! MacTaggart was certainly a man who loved the landscape of Kintyre – a great shame the house name has now changed.

I still have the historic deeds, which also state the cost of building the house (I think I got the date wrong – it was built in 1836, not 96 ) and cost £96 to build, stone built, 4 bedrooms, 2 public rooms, kitchen, outdoor plumbing, laundry and larder in outbuildings and a large garden. fascinating to read these days, especially when you see how the newbuilds are constructed and the prices!!

He lived in one of the houses and had his studio there – now under the health centre car park, as it wasn’t deemed important enough to save.
